It isn’t Easter until you’ve had a chocolate Easter bunny. But have you ever noticed the small ones say 2oz on the packaging? And have you ever stopped and thought: ‘huh, a standard shot is 2oz.’
You can guess where I’m going with this.
I’m going to teach you how to make a whisky chocolate Easter bunny. Don’t worry; this is a simple DIY project. If your culinary skills, like mine, don’t extend beyond operating on the microwave; you’ll be fine.
- A small chocolate bunny that’s hollow inside
- A toothpick
- A small funnel – optional
- Some chocolate chips
- A bottle of whisky (technically you need a measure)
- A plastic spatula
- A microwave-safe bowl or glass
Take your chocolate bunny and unwrap the bottom. Don’t uncover the whole thing, or you’ll have a harder time putting the foil back on. Pragmatic people will say you can do this with any Easter chocolate animal. They’re right. But they’re not as much fun.
Take the toothpick and make a hole in the bottom. The hole needs to be big enough that you can pour the whisky inside. Make a second hole in the bottom. The second hole is so air can escape when you’re pouring the whisky inside. After you’ve made two holes, put the bunny to one side.
Pour the chocolate chips into the microwave-safe bowl. Now, you’ve guessed why I said you need a microwaveable bowl.
Put the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds on 50% power. After 30 seconds, stir the chocolate with the spatula. Repeat until the chocolate melts. Part of chocolate’s magic is that it keeps its shape when it melts. You’ll want to give it a few good stirs. When it is good and melted, put the bowl to one side.
Pour the whisky into one of the holes. If you have a steady hand, you can go for it. I use a funnel. Especially if I’ve already had a few bunnies. Naturally, you can use any whisky you like, but I think our Heaven Hill single barrel whiskey pairs brilliantly with chocolate. That’s what I used.
Use the spatula to spread the melted chocolate over both holes.
If you want to be able to eat your bunny straight away, which is entirely understandable. But, patience is a virtue; put it in the freezer to set the chocolate caps. In 5 minutes, you’ll be ready to go!
