WHISKY TASTING NOTES

Nose: Sweet aromas on the nose with a hint of peat and some savoury notes. Intriguing elements of juniper, red berries and cherries.

Palate: Golden syrup and barley sugar, with just the right amount of smoky sweetness throughout to make this a gentle, balanced and delicate whisky.

Finish: Long and rich subtlety, with some spice that was hidden initially. Honeycomb and soft oak. It comes a long way from the initially light aromas.

BACKGROUND TO THIS ISLAY MALT

Every once and a while we come across a whisky that we’ve got to share with the world, but what we can’t share is the distillery’s name. We can tell you that it’s a single malt from one of the eight distilleries on Islay and was an incredible bourbon cask.  When it was 9 years old, we felt it would absolutely excel with an additional finishing period, so we finished it for a year in an ex-red wine barrique from the famous Alter Ego, which comes from Chateau Palmer Margaux in Bordeaux. So, this bottling has a pretty impeccable pedigree. However, the proof is in the tasting and, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter where this scotch comes from because we think it’s fantastic.
