Longmorn
About
Longmorn has been available as a single malt since the launch of a 15-year-old in 1993. The vast bulk of Longmorn is ring-fenced, with the single-cask offering part of Chivas Brothers' Cask Strength series. It is a regular sight on independent bottlers' lists and has built up a cult following, particularly in Japan.
Provided the most varied blends with a sweet and deeply fruity component. Its ferments are long; they are distillated in 8 thick-necked settings, giving the mark as weighty as it is aged in both ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon.
History
Longmorn was built by one of the 19th century's most interesting whisky entrepreneurs. Entrepreneur John Duff tried to start a whisky industry in South Africa but failed. He returned to Scotland and built Longmorn in 1893. In 1920, the young Masataka Taketsuru spent a short period working in the distillery. The stills at Nikka's two distilleries are said to be modelled on Longmorns.
Speyside Region
Although, Speyside was not accepted as an official whisky region it is now generally approved as a subdivision of the Highlands Region. Over half of all Scotland's distilleries are located in here which makes it the most densely populated whisky region in the world. Many of the most popular single malts are produced in Speyside also the malts here are typically said to be the sweetest of all scotch whisky malts. Their whiskies are known for being frugal with peat and full of fruit. Pear, apple, vanilla, honey and spice all have a part a role in expressions from this region, which are commonly matured in sherry casks.
