Campbeltown whisky region
Campbeltown, on the remote Kintyre peninsula in Scotland's south-west, was once known as the “whisky capital of the world” — home to more than thirty distilleries in the 19th century. Today just three remain, but they produce some of Scotland's most characterful and sought-after single malts, and Campbeltown retains its status as a distinct whisky region in its own right.
The Campbeltown style
Campbeltown malts are famously robust and distinctive: briny sea air, a touch of oil and smoke, dried fruit and a deep, complex character shaped by the town's coastal setting. These are whiskies with real personality and a devoted following.
Campbeltown distilleries
The three working distilleries are Springbank (which also produces the heavily peated Longrow and the triple-distilled Hazelburn), Glen Scotia, and Glengyle, whose whisky is bottled under the Kilkerran name.
